Trouble in Meru as MCA’s boo and heckle Kawira Mwangaza

Trouble is brewing in Meru county after an incident between the members of County Assembly and the governor Kawira Mwangaza. The Governor was heckled and chased away by the irate members who refused to listen to her address. The newly elected third governor of Meru has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. She was recently accused of nepotism after appointing her husband to two lucrative county positions.

This appointments didn’t sit well with the members of the public. According to the issues raised by the MCA’s, the Governor has been demeaning and disregarding them. One vocal member of the assembly claimed that they have been trying to get the attention of the county chief for over two weeks. However, The county chief has been snubbing their calls something their not happy with. The MCA’s have vowed to paralyse the county government of Meru until they get an audience with the governor. Kawira who was elected on an independent ticket might face a hard time governing in the Kenya Kwanza led house.

Impeachment Tradition

Kenya has become notorious in the impeachment of governors with two begin impeached from office successfully since devolution. Another 10 governors have been saved from impeachment by the high court or the senate. If Kawira Mwangaza is not careful she might face the same wrath that has faced other county chiefs in the past.

As devolution enters its third stretch under the new constitution. Members of County Assembly are beginning to understand their role. The assemblies were a laughing stock during the past two terms as many were not even to formulate and make proper laws. However, this is expected to change as the members are now well trained and well informed of their role. Kenyans can now see a glimpse of hope from their county assemblies in over sighting the Governors and proper legislative work.
