Former AFC Leopards, Thika United, KCB FC, Bidco United, Chemelil Sugar, Western Stima, Murang’a Seal and Vihiga Bullets head coach Juma Abdalla has died after an illness, bringing to an end a coaching career that saw him manage several clubs across Kenya’s top two football divisions.

His death was confirmed on Friday by Murang’a Seal, one of his former clubs, with the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and other clubs across the country subsequently issuing condolence messages in recognition of his contribution to Kenyan football.

The exact cause of death has not been made public.

Abdalla was widely regarded as an experienced coach who served numerous clubs during a career spanning more than two decades. He held coaching roles at AFC Leopards, Thika United, KCB FC, Bidco United, Chemelil Sugar, Western Stima, Murang’a Seal and Vihiga Bullets, earning respect for his work in player development and team management.

He was particularly associated with Thika United, where he coached during one of the club’s most competitive periods, and later returned to the Kenyan Premier League with spells at several other clubs, including Murang’a Seal and Western Stima.

Confirming his passing, Murang’a Seal paid tribute to their former head coach, describing him as a respected football figure.

“The final whistle has blown for one of football’s devoted servants. We are deeply saddened by the passing of our former Head Coach Juma Abdalla,” the club said.

The club added:

“A respected leader, mentor, and passionate football man, Coach Juma left an indelible mark on our club and the many lives he touched throughout his career. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life dedicated to shaping players, inspiring teams, and serving the game he loved.”

The Football Kenya Federation also mourned Abdalla, acknowledging his service to the sport.

“FKF joins the football fraternity in mourning the passing of coach Juma Abdalla. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, former players, and everyone whose lives he touched through the beautiful game. May his legacy continue to inspire generations. Rest in peace, coach,” the federation said.

Bandari FC also honoured the veteran tactician, saying:

“The Bandari Football Club family is deeply saddened by the passing of Coach Abdalla Juma. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, former players, and the entire football fraternity during this difficult time. His passion, dedication, and contribution to the beautiful game will forever be remembered.”

Although he never coached the national team, Abdalla established himself as one of Kenya’s experienced club coaches, working across different levels of domestic football and guiding several teams through league and cup competitions.

His death has drawn condolences from across the football community, with former clubs, players and administrators remembering his professionalism, discipline and commitment to the development of the local game.

Funeral and burial arrangements are expected to be announced by his family.

Abdalla’s passing marks the loss of a coach whose career reflected years of service to Kenyan football through his work with multiple clubs and his contribution to developing players within the domestic league system.
