World’s Smallest Handbag Sells For Over Ksh.885,000

Post by : Hillary Musyoki

A minuscule handbag measuring 657 by222by700 microns has sold over $63,000 at an online auction.

The bag, barely visible to human eye, fluorescent yellowish-green in color, is based on a popular Louis Vuitton design- the bag is a work of New York art collective.

Dubbed “Microscopic Handbag” the Brooklyn based group MSCHF claims the bag is narrow enough to pass through the eye of a needle and is smaller than a grain o sea salt.

“No one has done it better than him’ Jane Birkin on Serge Gainsbourg said.

The bag was made using two-photon polymerization, a manufacturing technology used to 3D -print micro-scale plastic parts. It was sold alongside a microscope equipped with a digital display trough which the bag can be viewed.

A photo of the bag shows the design in greater detain, reveling the Louis Vuitton signature. It appears to be based on the French label’s OnTheGo tote, which currently retails between $3,100 and$4,300.

The auction was hosted by Joopiter, an online auction house founded by American musician Pharrell Williams. Although Williams currently serves as Louis Vuitton’s creative director of menswear, MSCHF’s CCO Kevin Wiesner told the New York Times that the collective had sought his or French label’s permission to use its logo.

MSCHF, founded in 2016, is known for its irreverent art projects, creating amazing shoes, such as the rubber bots, known as “Big Red Boots” which became a viral sensation being worn by stars.
