Uganda: Three Students Kidnapped In Deadly School Attack Rescued

Uganda military forces have rescued three students, who were kidnapped on Friday during an attack on  a school, along with a woman and two kids who were previously kidnapped by the Allied Democratic Forces, rebel group, inside the Virunga Park in neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo.

Brigadier Felix Kulayigyesays , Military’s spokesman said “two terrorists” were killed and two guns recovered inside the national park  neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo.

During the Friday attack, when members of the ADF rebel group attacked the Lhubiria Secondary School in Mpondwe. Around 42 people , including 37 students were killed, some of the victims were attacked with machetes, while some of the dormitories were lit om fire.

Uganda police spokesperson Fred Enganga told CNN that 20 suspected ADF collaborators had been arrested, but none were actual members of the rebel group.

The arrest follows earlier disclose done by authorities that the rebel group ADF spent days planning the attack with the help of local residents n town.

On Wednesday, police said a self-proclaimed member of the militia group had been trailed and arrested after the suspect, Kalenzi Resto, identified by police as a shop attendant, admitted his involvement in the school attack.

Families of the victims began retrieving the bodies from local morgues this week for burial. So far 23 bodies have been handed over to their families.

The president announced the deployment of additional Ugandan troops to the western part of the country and across Uganda’s boarder with the Democratic Republic of Congo to track the ADF.
