Uganda Student Massacre 20 Rebels ‘Collaborators’ Detained

Uganda student massacre, an incident that left the country in mourning. Authorities said on Monday that 20 people were detained for questioning about their possible involvement in the massacre of 42 people on Friday by the Islamist group Allied Democratic Forces(ADF).

“At least 20 suspected ADF collaborators have been arrested, to assist with our investigations,” county police force said in a statement.

Police revealed that those involved included the school’s headteacher.

The student massacre, where a group of fighters from the Islamic State-linked rebels stormed the Lhubirirra Secondary School in Mpondwe, a town on Uganda’s boarders with Democratic Republic of Congo, at around 11:30 p.m on Friday.

The rebels torched one dormitory that belonged to the boys and entered the girls dormitory and begun cutting victims using machetes.

42 people were killed in the attack, 37 being students.

According to police, a 12-year old girl who was in her first year of secondary school was one of the victims.

They also revealed that seventeen bodies recovered were burnt beyond recognition and DNA samples are being used to identify the bodies.

ADF group was founded in Uganda in the 1990s. For years the rebels have battled against the president’s Yoweri government from their base in Rwenzori Mountains which extend Uganda’s border with Congo.
