Unemployed youths in the country will continue to suffer if a bill seeking to rehire retirees is passed. the bill which is sponsored by Kiambu county Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba seeks to open a platform where the public service can hire retired civil servants.
The bill seeks to give the public service cabinet secretary the mandate to identify areas that are critical especially in health care,Education and even National security.
In a country that has the highest unemployment rate in the region, it is especially unwise for a member of parliament to sponsor a bill that will set grounds for the non recruitment of inexperienced youths. The Geriatric bill seeks to give the older members of society a chance to serve their country again even after they retire from service. Gain for Livestock Farmers as OMAN lifts ban on Kenyan Exports
The country has of late been grappling with a huge Ageing workforce which was caused by the increase of retirement years in 2009. This policy was introduced in the year 2009 during the grand coalition government. before 2009 the retirement age was 55 but was moved to 60.
At the time of this policy, this increase was necessary because the government indicated that there was a lack of more experienced Kenyans in the workforce. This however has changed with most youths being over qualified and not employed.
Whether this bill has merit or not Young Kenyans should reject this proposal as it seeks to infringe on their right of fair access to job opportunities.LOOMING!!! NEW POLITICAL PARTY COOKING IN MOUNT KENYA EAST
