‘Shakahola Massacre’ an incident that still gives chills when talked about. As the exhumation process continues, autopsies done on the corpses found in the graves reveled missing organs.

Investigators revealed that it has led to suspicions of forced body harvesting which is a crime.

Police believe that most of the bodies found at the forest belong to the followers of the self proclaimed Pastor Paul Mackenzie who is facing charges of ordering his followers to fast to death to meet Jesus.

Autopsies  revealed starvation was the main cause of death on some victims including children, others were strangled, beaten, suffocated.

With recent autopsies done and sent to court, it was revealed that some of the corpses had their organs removed, police alleging that the suspects were engaged in forced body harvesting.

“Post mortem reports have established missing organs in somebodies of victims who have been exhumed,” Chief inspector Martin Munene said.

“It is believed that trade on human body organs has been well coordinated involving several players,” he added.

 Ezekiel Odero

The Chief Inspector said that pastor Ezekiel Odero, who was arrested last month in connection to the same case, and was granted bail on Thursday, received huge cash transactions allegedly from Mackenzie’s followers who sold their property.

The Nairobi court ordered the authorities to freeze more than 20 bank accounts belonging to Ezekiel for 30 days.

On Tuesday, CS Kithure Kindiki, who was arriving in Malindi to supervise the resumption of exhumation, revealed that a total of 112 people so far have been confirmed dead.

“Search and rescue efforts for persons suspected to be holed up in the thickets and bushes have been going on,”Kindiki said.

Mackenzie turned himself in on April 14 after police acting on a tip-off entered the Shakahola forest, were 30 mass graves have been found.
