Shakahola: CS Kindiki To Oversee Postmortem Of 129 Bodies

CS Kithure Kindiki returns to Kilifi County to oversee the commencement of the postmortem process of 129 bodies that were  exhumed in Shakahola forest.

The bodies were recovered during the second phase of the exhumation excise which has seen a tally of 2253 bodies recovered from the forest.

The autopsies will be conducted at the Malindi Sub-county Hospital.

The bodies exhumed are believed to belong to victims of cult led by Paul Mackenzie , who allegedly told his followers to starve themselves to see God.

The CS is then later expected to address the nation on the status of the process.

Additionally, counsellors from the Kenya Police Service are also helping the gravediggers in Shakahola and families of missing persons at the hospital.

The gravediggers from Shakahola and other villagers are give  daily counselling sessions to help them cope with the trauma.

“Debriefing is carried out on grave diggers, pathologists, homicide team, human rights personnel, the forensic team, morticians and the DCI officers every morning before they venture into the grave sites,” said a junior government counsellor.

The counsellor described the exercise to be the most challenging job they have undertaken.
