Kisii: “Bishop” Arrested For Allegedly Conning Followers Ksh.1.4M

Police have arrested a self-proclaimed pastor of the Pentecostal Evangelical Fellowship of Africa Church over allegations of duping people.

The DCI arrested Bishop Samson Obonyo who was strolling along Jogoo street within Kisii town, after several complaints were launched by over 15 individuals who claimed that the Bishop had duped them hundreds of thousands in an effort to secure Visas with a promise of a better life abroad.

In a police report, over 20 youth from PEFA church crowded the Kisii Central police station, with painful stories about the Bishop who promised them of Visas and employment in different countries overseas after paying facilitation fees worth Ksh.30,000 each.

However, the bishop, denied the allegations saying he wasn’t responsible for the loss of over Ksh.1.4M from PEFA faithful, adding that there were different group members who should be held accountable for the offence.

He further called upon the security team to investigate the matter, saying he was ready to give out his phone for any suspicious transactions.

 

He however revealed that there was a plan to take various youths abroad for jobs through the process but it was put on hold due Covid-19.

Kisii Police Commander Charles Kases said that some of the victims were forced to travel as far as Nairobi for medical checkups only for fake doctors to appear in the examinations giving the victims hope for travelling abroad.
