Paris Olympics: VIP’s Exempt As Organizers Confirm Stadium Alcohol Ban

Post by : Hillary Musyoki

Unless you will be joining the VIP group in the Olympics, no alcohol will sold to the general public, but only VIPs will be allowed to drink alcohol during the Olympics.

Organizers said on Tuesday, in line with the so-called Evin law banning its sale in stadiums.

“In application of the Evin law, alcohol will be banned from sale to the general public in stadiums during the Paris 2024 Games,” organizers of Paris 2024 told AFP.

The Elvin Law, introduced in1991, outlaws the sale of alcohol in stadiums, but it has some loopholes.

The law allows organizers to request up to 10 exemptions per year and per municipality.

However, the organizing committee of Paris 2024 said it did not require such an exception because the games entail the organization of “more than 700 sporting sessions over 15 days of competition.”

The only exception at the 2024 Olympic games will be for VIPs un hospitality boxes where not only alcohol will be allowed but they will also offer food.

Alcohol was available at the 2013 London Olympics and also at Rio, but due to Covid, Tokyo banned it, with no fans in the stadiums.
