Linda Mwananchi Movement communications head Pauline Njoroge accused part of President William Ruto’s base of being ‘double standards’ for condemning Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna over his meeting with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Ms Njoroge blasted critics on Twitter for condemning Mr Sifuna for his association with Mr Gachagua while being silent on the Presidential agenda despite the protests of the Kikalea against the imposition of new taxes.
“I see broadbased bloggers declaring, “I have lost all respect for Sifuna because he met Rigathi Gachagua.” Since when did you support Sifuna? You support William Ruto, under whose administration young Kenyans were abducted, maimed and killed, yet you want us to believe that Sifuna meeting Gachagua is what offends your conscience?” She asked.
Pauline accused the critics of ignoring allegations of abductions, killings, and injuries of young Kenyans in the protests and condemning Sifuna’s meeting with Gachagua as unforgivable. In addition, she defended Gachagua’s conduct in the wake of the protests and recalled his criticism of the mistreatment of protesters when he was the Deputy President.
“When our young people were being brutalized, Gachagua who was the Deputy President held a press conference in Mombasa and publicly condemned what was happening. You cannot conveniently erase that while defending the administration under which those atrocities occurred.” She said.
In addition, she reminded Kenyan citizens that President Ruto himself had refused to endorse the Finance Bill 2024 after the ugly incidents surrounding its implementation.

The President announced on June 26, 2024, that the bill would not receive his assent after protests erupted around the country with many people criticizing him for continuing to impose new taxes.
“Spare us the selective outrage. You cannot support Ruto, who continues to defy our Constitution, the very thing Baba stood for, you cannot continue to support Ruto, whose administration has overseen the killing, maiming and abduction of Kenyans, while acting as though meeting Gachagua is an unforgivable offence,” she added.
The meeting between Sifuna and Gachagua at the latter’s Wamunyoro House in Nyeri County on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, has raised more questions regarding the power and strength of hand of the emerging front ahead of the 2027 General Elections. However, it is still unclear whether the two leaders intend to form a coalition and take on the President in a political war of historic proportions.
Njoroge further challenged critics who cite Gachagua’s past remarks about the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, arguing that his record should be considered alongside Ruto’s own history of political differences with the veteran opposition leader. She argued that the words of Mr Ruto regarding Mr Odinga should also be put into consideration.
Therefore, Njoroge’s accusations accuse the base of Ruto of being biased, hypocritical, and inclined to favoritism over matters pertaining to the 2027 elections.
Although the meeting between the two leaders has created an impression that a power vacuum may exist if the J.K.R – The Ruto faction and the Azimio alliance are at loggerheads, it remains to be seen what the two parties intend to do in the future.
