Social media star Khaby Lame has been unveiled as an official ambassador for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, as preparations gather pace for the first Olympic event to be staged on African soil.

His appointment boosts the growing profile of the Games, which are set to shine a global spotlight on Dakar and its surrounding host areas.

Lame joins a list of prominent ambassadors that includes Omar Sy, Kalidou Koulibaly and Eva Neymar, reflecting the event’s broad appeal across sports, entertainment and digital culture.

Organisers say the inclusion of globally recognised personalities highlights efforts to connect with younger audiences and expand the reach of the Games beyond traditional sporting spaces.

Lame, who commands a massive global following, rose to fame during the COVID-19 pandemic through his signature silent comedy videos that resonated widely with youth audiences.

Speaking after his appointment, Lame said, “This commitment reflects my desire to support young African talent, both in sport and beyond. Dakar 2026 will give our continent the opportunity to showcase the best of itself and inspire young people in Africa and around the world.”

“It is a chance to demonstrate that, as well as being resilient, Africa is a force to be reckoned with. I am proud to be Senegalese, proud to be African, and we will make this first Olympic event in Africa a resounding success,” Lame added.

Organisers believe his strong influence among young people will play a key role in promoting the Games ahead of 2026. He is expected to feature in major campaigns, including the torch tour across Senegal, while also supporting initiatives aimed at social inclusion and youth engagement, particularly in communities such as Mbacké, his birthplace.

Mamadou Diagna Ndiaye, President of the organising committee, said Lame’s involvement reflects the rising excitement around the event.

“Khaby Lame’s involvement illustrates the incredible enthusiasm generated by this edition of the Games,” he said.

“Dakar 2026 is bringing together, inspiring and attracting talented individuals who want to help make this event a global success.”

The Games, organised in partnership with the International Olympic Committee, will run from October 31 to November 13, 2026, bringing together about 2,700 athletes aged 17 and under from around the world.

Competitions will take place across three main zones: Dakar, Diamniadio and Saly, with organisers positioning the event as a landmark moment for Senegal and Africa, promoting youth development, cultural exchange and sporting excellence.
