Police in Nyandarua County have launched investigations into a heartbreaking incident involving a four-month-old infant whose body was recovered from a shallow grave in a forest in Aberdare Subcounty.
The case first came to light after concerns were raised over a missing baby in Mwihangia Village, Karandi area. Officers from Shamata Police Station responded swiftly, launching a probe that led them to the infant’s mother.
During questioning, the mother reportedly told police she had been involved in a dispute with the child’s father, a casual labourer, over responsibility for the infant. She alleged that on the night of April 10, 2026, at around 10:30 pm, she left the baby outside the father’s gate after finding it locked.
Investigations later led officers to a nearby forest, where the man allegedly guided them to a shallow grave. The infant’s body was exhumed and the scene documented before the remains were moved to Nyahururu County Referral Morgue, where a post-mortem examination is expected.
Both parents have since been detained as detectives seek to establish the full circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
Meanwhile, in Kilifi County, police are investigating the brutal killing of a 70-year-old woman in Kailo/Mnyalani Village, Rabai Subcounty.
The victim, identified as Mnyazi Bechungu Juma, had been living with her daughter and grandchild. According to preliminary reports, she briefly stepped outside her house on the night of April 11 at around 11:50 pm when a commotion was heard moments later.
“Her daughter rushed out and found her lying in a pool of blood just a few metres from the house. The body bore deep cuts to the head, indicating a violent attack. ,” a witness recalled.
Police say the motive for the act remains unclear, though the incident is part of a worrying trend of attacks targeting elderly residents in the area. The body was moved to Coast General Hospital mortuary as investigations continue and a search for the attackers intensifies.
In a separate incident in Kwale County, authorities are also probing the death of an unidentified middle-aged man whose body was found at Kombani Junction in Matuga Subcounty.
Police who visited the scene reported no visible physical injuries. The body was taken to Kwale County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits identification and a post-mortem examination.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing in all three cases as they work to uncover the truth behind the incidents.
