Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua opened his Wamunyoro House in Nyeri County to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and a delegation from the Linda Mwananchi movement on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. Hours earlier, Gachagua had returned to Kenya from the United States where he spent nearly two months, meeting with Kenyan Diaspora.

The guest of honor at the high-profile meeting was Embakasi East MP Babu Owino with Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi and other personalities also present. Gachagua welcomed the visitors on social media, referring to them as his cousins from Linda Mwananchi.

Whenever we come together, great things should happen,’ Gachagua said.

The gathering of political heavyweights comes as members of the opposition discuss forging a united front for the 2027 General Election. No official coalition agreement or combination ticket joint ticket was unveiled following the Wamunyoro House meeting.

Ahead of his departure to the US last month, Gachagua had indicated he needed time away from political allies to make critical decisions on his own.

“When I’m here there’s a lot of influence, Kaguchia tells me this, Methu that; this pulls me this way, the other, that way,” Gachagua said during his Diaspora tour.

By meeting Sifuna and the Linda Mwananchi delegation, Gachagua had put himself back in the middle of the most intense political action, days after announcing his decision to run for president again.

Sifuna has risen to prominence as one of the new champions of Linda Mwananchi, while Gachagua has been laying the groundwork for the DCP presidential ticket after being forced out of the Jubilee Party deputy presidency in October 2024.

It was Gachagua who, back in September, said he was ready to meet with Sifuna and Owino and urged the opposition leaders to stop their supporters from creating noise and division within the ranks of Linda Mwananchi.

The Wamunyoro House talks are the latest chapter in a series of meetings between Gachagua and other opposition members. While the presence of various opposition personalities at the same event could be seen as an endorsement, it does not necessarily mean a formal coalition has been agreed.

Speaking about the meeting, Babu Owino said he appreciated Gachagua for the warm welcome and described the visitors as “honored guests’ in a social media post. Details of what was discussed remain scarce, with Gachagua offering only a vague summary of the conversations at Wamunyoro House.

With the 2027 polls approaching, more meetings and public statements will be needed to indicate whether the meeting represented a genuine turning point in the rivalry between the opposition leaders.
