Standard Group PLC Chief Executive Officer Chaacha Mwita has tendered his resignation, which will take effect on November 1, 2026. According to a notice published by Standard Group on Friday, October 16, Mwita also left his position as an Executive Director.
The notice quoted regulation 10 of the Thirteenth Schedule of the Capital Markets (Public Offers, Listings and Disclosures) Regulations, 2023, concerning the requirements for disclosing material changes in a company’s affairs.
“THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE STANDARD GROUP PLC WISHES TO ANNOUNCE THAT CHAACHA MWITA HAS RESIGNED AS CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER AND AN EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE COMPANY EFFECTING 1ST NOVEMBER 2026,” the notice read.
His reason for leaving has not been given, and no successor has been named.
Mwita was appointed acting Group CEO on July 1, 2025, after Marion Gathoga-Mwangi resigned from the position. Mwita started his career at Standard Group in April 2025 as the Group Chief Executive Editor, before being appointed Group CEO.
Prior to being appointed to his current position, Mwita had become a member of the Standard Group in April 2025, assuming the role of Group Chief Executive Editor, a capacity in which he was entrusted with overseeing editorial leadership as well as the formulation of content strategy across all of the company’s various platforms.

He was formally acknowledged as the substantive Chief Executive Officer on April 1, 2026, after a performance review and search process. At the time of his appointment, the company released a statement highlighting Mwita’s competence and leadership abilities in preparation for the position.
“Following a comprehensive evaluation of his performance and a structured appointment process, the Board is satisfied that he has demonstrated the requisite leadership capability, experience, and integrity to assume the role on a substantive basis,” the company said in its April announcement.
Mwita has over two decades of experience in journalism, media and management, having worked with Standard Group, Nation Media Group, the Aga Khan Foundation, the African Population and Health Research Centre and the Thomson Foundation in London.
He is an alumnus of the University of Nairobi, where he studied Bachelor of Education (Arts) and a postgraduate diploma in Mass Communication, the University of St Gallen, Switzerland, where he studied for an MBA, as well as the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Luxembourg, where he pursued executive development programmes.
His exit will see him depart from the position of Chief Executive Officer as well as the non-executive director of Standard Group. The vacancy for the position of CEO is yet to be filled, and no short-term plans for the management of the firm have been announced.
