Nakuru: Two Lynched Over Livestock Theft

On Tuesday night, in Nakuru county, a shocking incident occurred , two men were lynched over livestock theft.

In the first incident, 43-year old Anthony Cheruiyot was lynched to death by an angry mob in Mau summit, he was suspected to have stolen a number of sheep and enclosed them in his homestead.

Police reveled that the mob stormed in at around 10p.m and pounced on him. Officers present went to stop the mob, were  they recovered a Bereya pistol from the suspect.

Mr. Anthony Cheruiyot is a repeat offender, he had pending court case at the Molo Law courts, where he had previously been accused of a similar offence after being found in possession of 11 stolen sheep on April 29.He was out on bail.

In the second incident, which occurred two hours later after the first, one suspect, whom had been burnt beyond recognition and the police could not identify had an accomplice who escaped with severe wounds.

The angry mob attacked the two for allegedly stealing two cows a few kilometers from the first incident.

“Police officers from Sirikiwa police station rushed to the scene after getting word of the incident, only to find the charred remains of the suspect,” DCI reported in a statement.

The stolen livestock was returned to the owners, while a manhunt for the escaped suspect is ongoing.
