DPP Haji withdraws Aisha Jumwa’s Corruption Case

Cabinet Secretary Nominee Aisha Jumwa. Her corruption case has been withdrawn.

The Director General of Public Prosecutions has issued a request to withdraw the corruption case against Aisha Jumwa who was recently appointed Public Service and Gender Cabinet Secretary.

Jumwa, who was a Member of Parliament for Malindi was facing charges of illegally obtaining Ksh. 19 million.Through the head of prosecution Alex Akula, the DPP’s office informed Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku that it has received orders to withdraw the case against Jumwa who is the first defendant in the case.

However, the case of the 8 others the CS nominee was charged with will continue.

Jumwa’s lawyers, led by Jared Magolo, welcomed the move and further sought an apology from the government for the charges pressed against her.Justice Mutuku ordered that the case be mentioned to allow the other 8 defendants to be re-indicted.

Aisha Jumwa was accused alongside Wachu Omar, Kennedy Otieno, Bernard Riba, Sophia Saidi, Margaret Kalume, Robert Katana and Multi serve Contractors.The accusation allegedly took place between May and October 2018 in Malindi constituency, Kilifi County.

The case will be mentioned on the 17th of this month for further direction.
