CS Kindiki “Government to Install E-gates API Systems at country’s Entry Points”

Post by : Hillary Musyoki

The government is to install an Advanced Passenger Information system as well as E-gates at the country entry points for easy identification of passengers.

According to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, the API  will help in boosting the Country’s security eliminating long queues as passengers await their immigration stamps.

The CS indicated that the system will enable the profiling of passengers travelling in and out of the country and those transiting before they land in the country.

“The Ministry is at an advanced stage of acquiring and installing an Advanced Passenger Information System(APIS) that will be integrated into the international immigration system to enable one to profile passengers travelling in and out of Kenya and even those transiting through the country before they land here” Kindiki said.

He also added that, besides it being a major boost in assisting the immigrations and security efforts, the systems will reduce queues at the immigration Centre.

“APIS will be supplemented with the installation of Gates at JKIA and our Ports of entry. Besides being a major boost in assisting our immigration and security endeavors, this APIS system and E-gates will eliminate queues  at our immigration counters.”

Kindiki has also added that the government is also working to improve the electronic surveillance at the ports gates to be able to detect illegal items.
