On Monday April 17, 2023, three suspects were arrested for allegedly duping an Iranian national of $500,000 (ksh.64M)in a fake gold deal have been charged at Milimani Law Courts.
Two Kenyans Patrick Ngare Muchina and Kelvin Mwaura and a Congolese national Muke Wa Mansoni Didier were presented before Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi on Thursday . The three denied the charges presented before them, for conspiring to commit a felony and obtaining money by false pretense from an Iranian businessman Sadegh Sadeghain Abolfzi.
The Directorate of Public Prosecutions told the court that the three suspects planned to scam Abolfazi between April 2021 and April 14,2023 within Kilimani area in Nairobi.
Mr. Abolfazi is said to have paid the trio millions of shillings in secrecy within Nairobi on a promise that they were in a position to deliver to him the 60Kg of gold.
After denying the charges , the two Kenyans , through their lawyers , pleaded with the court to grant them bail on reasonable terms.
For the Congolese national, he told the court that he is willing to abide by bail terms the court shall set, including handing over his passport to the court.
The Magistrate present at the court ordered each of the accused to be released on a bond of Ksh3M each.
Gold scam cases have been happening, with unsuspecting businessmen losing millions to scammers.
