DCI’s Boss Mohammed Amin has been given the green light to open a metallic safe belonging to a politician who is under probe of Ksh.12.7M gold fraud case.
Milimani Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi allowed the DCI to open the safe retrived from ODM politician Seth Steve Okute’s house in Kilimani, Nairobi Count during his arrest in February 2023 to reveals its contents.
Okute, who was the Director of New Skys Global Cargo Movers is charged alongside Brunoh Otieno Lende alias Oyugi with defrauding American National Ksh12.7M in a 33Kg gold deal.
Okuto vied for the Karachunyo parliamentary seat in2022 on an Orange Democratic Movement(ODM) party, while Lende alias Oyugi vied for the Suna East Parliamentary seat in Migori County.
The two accused were arrested following a report made by the victim, Marjorie Grant, an American investor living in Los Angelas, California.
The culprit Okute, is alleged to have deceived the Investor to his JKIA office to assist in the shipment of 33Kgs of gold allegedly held at Nairobi custom offices from Burkina Faso.
The Metallic Box
Okute was the first to be nabbed before the police detectives also went to Otieno’s hoe in Kitususru, Nairobi County. Okute was in possession of a pistol loaded with 13 rounds.
Detectives also found heavy metallic boxes, which are believed to be used to store crucial information that is currently been used by officers in the investigations.
He was told by the DCI to open the sealed cash, till box, but Okute claimed that he has lost the Key and he alleged that it belongs to a customer.
After his refusal to open the box, the DCI filed for an application in court seeking to be allowed to open the said box.
In the application, DCI sought court orders for Okute to be present during the time the box should be opened at the applicants office in Old Nairobi Area and witness the opening of the sealed metallic box.
The court has also directed police to return personal items belonging to the accused persons which was not part of the evidence.
