Tanzania: 4 Nurses Arrested Over Organ Trafficking

Post by : Hillary Musyoki

Tanzania police in Tabora region have arrested four nurses suspected to be part of an organ trafficking scheme.

The regional commissioner Batilda Buriani says the four were arrested after investigators found that the bodies of prematurely born twins were mutilated after they had died.

He said the twins’ mother found their eyes gouged out and part of their skins peeled off from the forehead.

The commissioner told BBC that the nurses have since been suspended and will face charges of organ harvesting.

He said that the organ harvesting has been linked to witchcraft.

The nurses are also facing charges of lying that the bodies were kept in the maternity war when they were, in fact, found in the nurses’ room.

The investigation committee said the twins died due to a lack of neonatal care services unavailable at the facility.
