Female Genital Mutilation is a vice affecting young girls, a vice practiced on them because of their communities beliefs.
The head of state has called upon the Kuria Community to stop Female Genital Mutilation and take up girl-child education.
Speaking at Kuria East Constituency, during his visit, he told the community to stop FGM immediately and join the government in developing the region.
“Let us stop that thing(FGM). I hear that men here are still insisting on cutting their girls. No, I have refused . I want our girls to go to school and prosper. Why are the men here silent ?FGM must stop,” said the president.
Ruto said that FGM cases in the region have reduced , urging the community to focus on eliminating it completely.
“We have to give equal opportunities to our children. To our girls here in Kuria , know that we value you.” he added.
The Kuria Community , which is the largest based in Migori County, is among the communities with high records of FGM practices.
