President Ruto “We Must Defend The Media”

As CS Kuria still under the spotlight due to his recent remarks, the President has now said that the government will defend the rights of the media as his CS for Trade  continues his attacks against the media.

Speaking after flagging off this year’s WRC in Naivasha, the President promised to “do his bit’ in protecting the media  from the CS who has been on the spotlight since the Nation Media Group dis an expose’ on the edible oils scandal that has allegedly cost the government billions.

“We must defend the media, we must defend their right to criticize, to say whatever it is that they want to say even if its propaganda.” said the President.

The president has also defended the CS  saying the media must also be ready to be criticized when people speak up.

CS Kuria started his attacks on Nation Media Group, its owner and journalists accusing them of being “an opposition party” before making a remark directed at government agencies to stop advertising with the media house, failure to which they would be fired.

The CS was responding to an expose ‘NMG covered over the weekend exposing’s an oil scandal allegedly planned by his ministry.

He went on Twitter to call out the media house journalists labelling them “prostitutes” which angered many Kenyans who deemed his move too low .

His attacks have been criticized by the Kenya journalists Union, Kenya Editors Guild, the Deputy President and Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi.
