Motorists using super petrol in the country are expected to dig deeper into their pockets after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) raised the price of the commodity by Sh3.56.
The agency has however spared diesel and kerosene users, leaving the prices of the commodities unchanged for the next month.
In Nairobi, super petrol will therefore retail at Sh126.37 per litre, diesel at Sh107.66 and kerosene at Sh97.85 per litre.
Mombasa residents will pay Sh123.95 for a litre of super petrol, Sh105.27 for a litre of diesel and Sh95.46 for a litre of kerosene.
In Nakuru, residents will part with Sh125.98 for a litre of super petrol, Sh107.55 for a litre of diesel and Sh97.76 for a litre of kerosene.
Eldoret and Kisumu residents will all pay Sh126.90 for a litre of super petrol, Sh108.46 for a litre of diesel and Sh98.68 for a litre of kerosene.
According to the Authority, the prices are inclusive of the 8 percent VAT, in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2018, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation.
The Authority has attributed the change of super petrol price to a decrease in the average landed cost of the imported commodity by 0.57 percent from US$491.50 per cubic metre in March 2021 to US$488.69 per cubic metre in April 2021.
“Over the same period, the mean monthly US dollar to Kenya Shilling exchange rate appreciated by 1.63 percent from Sh109.63 per US dollar in March 2021 to Sh107.84 per US dollar in April 2021,” the Authority said.
