Obiri Shines Again In The Boston Race

Hellen Obiri, from winning in the 1500m tracks, to shining again in the Women’s Boston 10km race held Sunday where she won first position again.

Obiri, who claimed the Boston Marathon title in April, clocked 31minutes and 21 seconds ahead of her competitors Stacy Ndiwa who clocked 31:25 while Sheila Chepkirui became third clocking 31:27.

From the start, Obiri showed her strength, building a 13-second lead by 5k. Later on the hot and humid conditions began to affect the double Olympic champion.

“At 8K my body was so tired. Maybe I went out too hard from the start,”Obiri said. “The ladies coming from behind were strong. But I say, I’m also the best. I can try to win.”

“I’m so happy about the result ,” Obiri said. “I wanted to run in the 30 minutes but unfortunately the whether was too hot, it was humid. But I am so happy for the win today.”

In the men’s race, Gabriel Geay of Tanzania took the win in 27:49 with a Kenyan duo of Edwin Kurgat and Alex Masai finishing second and third.
