Nigeria: Man Killed For Alleged Blasphemy

In the northern part of Nigeria, a Muslim man has been killed by a mob for alleged blasphemy.

The man, Usman Buda, who was a butcher at the Sokoto city’s butchery, “was mobbed and attacked by some Muslim faithful who inflicted serious injuries on him,”Sokoto police spokesman Ahmad Rufa’i was quoted by the AFP news agency.

When police arrived at the crime scene, “the mob escaped and left the victim unconscious,” he added.

Mr. Buda’s death was confirmed when he had arrived at hospital for treatment.

The police are in search for the alleged attackers.

AFP reported that Mr. Buda was murdered after an argument over some child beggars who had asked him for money. The report quotes a witness saying that  he got involved in an argument after he disapproved of the children. He then made the alleged blasphemous remarks about the Prophet Muhammad.

A ghastly video trending on social media shows a mob targeting a man with stones as he stumbles and falls.

Sokoto state Governor Ahmed Aliyu “called on the people of the state to remain calm and law-abiding at all times, “he added that people should not do anything that is capable of degrading the personality of the Prophet Muhammed.

In May, 2022, a female student suffered the same, she was attacked by Muslim students at her college in Sokoto. She was killed and set her body alight. she was accused of blaspheming.
