Former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza and Mavoko MP Patrick Makau have joined the inner circle of the Linda Mwananchi Movement, after Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna announced a proposed leadership team for the party as they ramp up for the 2027 General Election.
Speaking on Friday October 30, 2026, while launching the movement’s headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi, Sifuna stated that Mwangaza has agreed to switch parties and join Linda Mwananchi as a deputy party leader.
“We have resolved that the Honourable Kawira Mwangaza has agreed very graciously that she will be leaving her party to become one of the party leaders. Secondly,. Kalonzo, Patrick Makau has said that he wants to be here as one of the deputy party leaders,” Sifuna said.
Mavoko Constituency MP Makau was also proposed to be a deputy party leader following his support for the movement’s political mobilisation. The appointments are aimed at setting up a national leadership and administration for the movement.
Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has been nominated to be the party’s chairman, with former Makadara MP Reuben Ndolo to be his deputy. Suba South MP Caroli Omondi has been proposed to be the Secretary-General with political strategist Pauline Njoroge as his deputy. Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka will be the national treasurer, with Abigael Gikonyo as his deputy.
Former Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo has been proposed as a deputy party leader. The movement has also set aside a deputy leadership role for someone from the Coast region.
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has been proposed to be the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and head the presidential campaign. Sifuna said the team had agreed that Natembeya should lead the campaign, however he is not their presidential candidate.

Other appointments include Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale as the Secretary for Political Affairs, Kari Karani as Organising Secretary and Caroline Mayungu as president of the Women’s League.
Fridah Onduso has been proposed to be the leader of the Youth League and former Narok ODM chairperson Torome Nalengoyo has been nominated to represent minority groups in the party’s National Executive Committee. Eunice Juma has been proposed to be in charge of Diaspora Affairs and Gilbert Shanga as International Affairs.
Sifuna thanked Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka for allowing elected leaders from his party to join Linda Mwananchi. He also thanked Danson Mwashako, Kimilu and Patrick Makau for supporting the movement at its early stages.
This shows the movement’s efforts to unite politicians from different parties as opposition leaders look to work together ahead of the 2027 elections. Several opposition members attended the launch, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo and DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa.
The appointments are expected to be proposed to delegates at the movement’s National Delegates Convention on November 13, 2026.
This is expected to include a discussion around the leadership of the movement as they look to set up a national political machine. Sifuna announced that they will look to expand their grassroots by opening offices in each county. Kwale will be the first to do so on Saturday October 31.
The Lavington headquarters will be their national base of operations.
This announcement shows further progress in transforming The Equitable Party into a political party called Linda Mwananchi. They have already had approval to use the name Linda Mwananchi after a ruling from the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal.
The November convention will be an important point in confirming that the leadership appointments and changes are approved by the delegates as they prepare for the 2027 General Election.
