Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i will this Sunday, September 27, go ‘Meet the People’ in Narok as he hosts leaders of different political parties and movements. According to Matiang’i’s action plan, the delegation will begin the day with a worship session at Dominion Church in Olerai before heading to Narok Town for an engagement. Matiang’i will be joined in the mission by Siaya Governor James Orengo, People’s Party of Kenya (PPK) boss Ndindi Nyoro and Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni who will host the delegation in Narok.

The programme marks a rare convergence of politicians who have been operating under different political formations as new movements and parties gear up for the 2027 General Election. Orengo has been at the forefront for the Lindamwananchi movement while Nyoro has been conducting public outreach on behalf of PPK after crossing over from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). Kioni, on the other hand, continues to be a key player in Jubilee Party with Matiang’i recently replacing retired President Uhuru Kenyatta as the boss of the party.

The Narok ‘Meet the People’ programme comes after a series of combined engagements involving Matiang’i and Nyoro. The two were seen together in the Murang’a meet on September 12 where they asked their fellow opposition politicians to put aside their differences and hold discussions as political parties and movements prepare for the 2027 General Election.

“We need to stop name-calling and all the leaders in the united opposition in DCP, Linda Mwananchi, PPL, PPK should come and chart the way forward”, Matiang’i said in his speech on the day.

Nyoro has in the past called for unity among opposition leaders saying their meetings should not be about power but issues affecting ordinary Kenyan. The two politicians were seen together for the first time after Nyoro left UDA and joined PPK. On the day Matiang’i was elected Jubilee leader, September 22, Nyoro was one of the first personalities to congratulate him and was quick to point out that PPK was allied to Jubilee and the united opposition.

The Sunday programme in Narok will see politicians from Jubilee, PPK and Linda Mwananchi network sharing a public platform even though it is yet to be confirmed whether the appearance is a precursor to a formal political alliance.

Matiang’i has yet to unveil the issues that will be addressed during the meet in Narok Town. As politicians across the spectrum continue to engage counties ahead of the 2027 General Election, Sunday’s programme will offer residents a public forum to air their concerns as the leaders also articulate their intentions for the country.
