Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two suspects in connection with the fatal stabbing of Kariokor Market shoe trader Paul Mwangangi in Nairobi. The suspects, Joseph Kimani Ndungu (Alias Bajong) and Peter Kimani Githinji (Alias Denoo), were taken to Kayole Police Station after investigations over Mwangangi’s death on October 12, 2026.

According to a Wednesday, October 14, statement, DCI Central and Kamukunji detectives, in collaboration with Nairobi Regional Criminal Investigations Office, tracked the suspects in Kayole following intelligence information.

The trader was found stabbed to death at Landhies Road, Muthurwa Market, across the footbridge. When DCI detectives arrived at the scene of the crime, they found Mwangangi’s body on the ground with a wound on his chest. Detective from the Crime Scene Investigation Unit then took photos of the scene and collected evidence before sending the body to City Mortuary for autopsy.

During the search operation, DCI detectives retrieved a Maasai sword with blood stains from the scene as an exhibit for ballistic tests as they continue to investigate the case to determine whether the weapon caused the fatal injuries. The two suspects were detained at Kamukunji Police Station to await further investigations and appear before the court.

“DCI will leave no stone unturned in this case. We will follow up on every lead to identify and bring all those involved in this crime to book,” the DCI said in a statement.

The suspects’ fate remains unclear as they await results from the forensic labs. The DCI investigation branch is still determining whether the two suspects are the ones who actually stabbed Mwangangi to death, and whether they have any connection to the fatal crime.
