Over 2.58 million Grade 6 and Grade 9 students took their national examinations on Monday, October 26, with 295,091 Teachers Service Commission (TSC) staff being deployed to monitor the process.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) put the number of students who sat for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) to 1,380,463, while 1,206,028 sat for the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) making a total of 2,586,491.

The Commission said it had deployed more than 295,091 personnel to support the administration of the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA), Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) and Kenya Pre-Vocational Level Education Assessment (KPLEA).

The Teachers Service Commission also announced the deployment in a flag-off ceremony at Mavoko Sub-County, Machakos County, with Acting Director of Staffing Samwel Marigat representing acting Chief Executive Officer Evaleen Mitei.

“Dr Mitei reaffirmed the Commission’s unwavering support for the exercise and urged all participating agencies to discharge their duties with integrity, vigilance, and professionalism,” TSC said on its X post.

The examinations include KPSEA for Grade 6 students, KJSEA for Grade 9, Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) and Kenya Pre-Vocational Level Education Assessment (KPLEA).

KPSEA will take place between now and October 28, KILEA and KPLEA until October 29 and KJSEA until October 30. They are part of Kenya’s Competency-Based Education system with Grade 6 finishing their primary education and Grade 9 students preparing for their move into senior school.

Deployment means that the TSC, KNEC, the Ministry of Education and school officials have coordinated to ensure examination materials can be sent to centres and students can sit their exams.

The four examinations are part of the country’s national examinations. With KNEC registering 3,634,846 students taking their various examinations in 2026. This includes students sitting KCSE, with the oral and practical paper starting on October 19. Written papers will take place from November 2 to 20.

TSC has called on examination staff to maintain integrity and alertness.
