IPOA Launch Investigations Of Alleged Police Brutality During Monday’s Protests

The Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) are investigating two incidents of alleged police brutality that occurred in Kisumu and Nairobi during Monday Protests.

According to a statement issued by the chairperson, Ann Makori, IPOA officers were posted across the country to monitor the conduct of police officers who were deployed in Kisumu in which a university student was shot dead.

Furthermore, IPOA also said that resident of Nairobi was seriously injured by police at the Toi Market.

“The Authority has since launched investigations into the incidents and also on stand by to take up investigations for any incidents that may arise in the interim,” the statement read.

IPOA also noted that some officers were injured during the day-long protests that also led destruction of property.

“IPOA strongly condemns the provocation witnessed from both the members of the public and Politian’s and calls upon them to abide by the new law in exercising their constitutional rights to demonstrate, in particular the Public Order Act, Penal Code and al other laws relevant to public order management.”
