Africa’s Position on the Russian War in Ukraine,AU chairman Speaks

Post by : Ann Njambuya

African Union Chairman and Senegalese president Macky Sall. The African Union is seeking to negotiate with Russia in regards to wheat and fertiliser imports.

As the war in Ukraine continues most countries especially in Africa are left to reestablish their position in the war. Unlike most European countries who condemned the war in Ukraine, Most African countries avoided to be drawn into the conflict.

African Countries and countries in the middle east have been exploited badly by European and American powers. This powers have committed grievous atrocities either in the name of fighting terrorism, National security or even research.

When Russia invaded Ukraine in the month of February 2022, NATO allied countries imposed strict and tough sanctions on Russia. The sanctions were expected to deter the largest country in the world from the war.

However there was divided attention on the same, as People from the Middle east claimed that the west and Europe are keen to condemn the war in Ukraine but did nothing to stop the War in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Unfair Treatment

During the early stages of evacuation efforts, there were serious reports that black and brown people were being treated differently from their White counterparts. Such types of reports and allegations have brought the world to a place where everyone has they own view.

Currently Africa is grappling with huge hunger cases that are evident across the continent. This crisis has been made worse by the sanctions imposed on Russia by Western and European powers.

LOSS FOR KENYA AFTER TALIBAN TAKE OVER IN AFGHANISTAN

In regards to the latest tabulations from the UN over half of the African countries import their wheat from Russia. Russia is also said to export fertiliser to over 10 countries in the region.

According to a statement seen by https://www.iconnews.co.ke The African Union Chairman Macky Sall is expected to visit both Moscow and Kyiv on Sunday. His visit is expected to cover the wheat and general food crisis in the world.

 African Interests

At this time, Africa should borrow a leaf from west and European powers who care about their own first and the rest of the world latter. It is prudent that the AU chairman Macky Sall put the interest of the African People before the interest of others.

It my opinion that Africa should be neutral and unbiased of this war. Africa should be in support of no one  during this times. However all wars should be condemned and always seek the peaceful resolution to anything.
