Shakahola: 300 people Still Missing As Number Of Exhumed Bodies Hit 98

Shakahola massacre , an act that has left people in shock is still under probe. With the number of exhumed bodies still increasing as it has now hit 98, following the exhumation of bodies of eight children.

As authorities intensify the search, a majority of those confirmed dead include children.

According to recent reports, at least 300 people have been reported missing as a result of Pastor’s Mackenzie’s activities , which are yet to be found, or their bodies found.

Paul Mackenzie , head of the Good News International Church, surrendered to police i March ad was charged after two kids died of starvation while in their parent’s care.

He was later released on a Ksh.100,000 cash bail, but he was re-arrested on April 15,2023,this is after more bodies were discovered suffering from the same.

Curfew Issued

On Wednesday, April 16,2023, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki issued a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Shakahola even as police intensify investigations. So far at least 14 suspects have been arrested in connection to the crime.

“Curfew orders  have also been declared and gazetted within the said area between 188HRS in the evening up to and until 0600HRS in the morning for a period of 30 days. There shall be no public gatherings, processions or movement either alone or as a group during the period of curfew into and out of Chakama Ranch expect as shall be permitted, in writing by the Kilifi County Police Commander in consultation with the Operation Commander.” Security agencies has barred journalists from accessing the forest where the bodies are  being exhumed.

Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro claimed that Mackenzie does not own the land, claiming it is part of the Chakama Settlement Scheme which has been grabbed by individuals.

According to the governor pastor Mackenzie chose the piece of land because it is less populated and it is covered by forests making it easy to conduct his crime.
