Kenyan amateur boxer Ferdinand Omondi, also called Mbavu Destroyer, has announced his intention to vie for the Makongeni Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat in Nairobi County during the 2027 General Election.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, October 22, 2026, Mbavu shared a campaign-style poster bearing the words “Mbavu Madaraka 2027” alongside a message reflecting on ambition, opportunity and the courage required to pursue a challenge.
“The mountain does not become smaller because a traveller refuses to climb it; the opportunity remains, but the traveller must decide whether comfort is worth more than achievement,” he wrote.
He followed the message with the question, “Kura kwa nani?” before signing off with his signature catchphrase, “Nimejaa ngori na itakua mbayaaaaa.”
The MCA position entails representing constituents in the county assembly and participating in the deliberations and decisions of the county government, including matters related to the budget. In his post, Omondi did not specify the political party or campaign slogan that he would adopt. Details about his campaign team are yet to be made public.

The boxer gained fame through online boxing video challenges and his high-profile boxing rivalries with fellow amateur boxer and social media sensation Portifas Odipo, nicknamed Majembe. The two boxers faced off in a highly anticipated match scheduled at Vurugu Fight Night in Kasarani Indoor Arena on April 4, 2026. Majembe defeated Omondi after knocking him out to a standing seven count.
The fight had gone viral online and attracted the attention of several influential personalities in the country, including the President William Ruto. According to a media statement, Ruto had donated KSh1 million to each competitor, and had also promised to buy 2000 tickets for fight fans.
Omondi continued to gain popularity from the fight, as he invested in a large fan base, which he fed through online engagement and community activities. Omondi announced his candidacy for the Makadara MCA seat in a social media post last year, and his latest post indicates that he is considering a run for office in Makongeni.
Makongeni is one of the eight (8) wards that make up Makadara Constituency in Nairobi County. Jateso Peter Imwato is the sitting MCA for Makongeni, having won the seat on behalf of the Azania Party in the 2024 General Election. Omondi’s intended candidacy will see him join a growing list of celebrities who are set to vie for public office ahead of the August 2027 General Election.
