Passengers on SGR who used cash, will now have to follow the new rule while boarding the SGR trains.

The Kenya Railways plans to implement cashless ticketing on its Standard Gauge Railway service beginning February 1,2022.

According to a statement issued by KR , passengers will no longer be able to pay for tickets at all Madaraka express passenger service station on the aforementioned date and will be required to go cashless at all service points.

SGR customers have been advised to use M-PESA, debit or credit cards to pay.

To date, the SGR operates two pairs of trains between Nairobi and Mombasa, with departures at 8.a.am, 3pm and 10pm.

First class costs Ksh.3000, for adults and Ksh.1500 for children.

For the economy class it costs Ksh.1000 per adult and Ksh.500 for children aged 3to 11.

This is a big step for SGR as it keeps on improving with the technology times.
