Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has urged residents of Emurua Dikirr to peacefully receive former Deputy President and Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, as he tours the constituency on Friday. Sudi called on residents to allow Gachagua to address them freely, regardless of their political differences, and warned against confrontations or violence during the former Deputy President’s visit. Speaking ahead of Gachagua’s planned political engagements, Sudi said political competition should not be allowed to result in injuries or loss of life. He urged residents to listen to competing political leaders and allow them to leave peacefully after addressing their supporters.

Sudi’s remarks come against a backdrop of heightened attention surrounding Gachagua’s visit after the DCP leader raised concerns over alleged threats against his entourage. Gachagua had earlier written to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, asking the National Police Service to provide security guarantees for his planned visit to Emurua Dikirr. In his letter, Gachagua claimed that threats against his visit had been issued by the area’s sitting MP, David Kipsang Keter, and other individuals. He said some of the alleged threats had been recorded and circulated on social media. Gachagua also made allegations involving Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, claiming they were linked to efforts to mobilise people against his visit.

The security concerns emerged after recent political clashes in Homa Bay County, where violence disrupted a Linda Mwananchi political gathering and resulted in deaths and injuries. Sudi’s intervention was focused on preventing a repeat of such confrontations in Emurua Dikirr. He told residents that political disagreements should not turn neighbours, relatives and fellow Kenyans against one another. The MP also urged locals to give Gachagua an opportunity to express his political views, even if they disagreed with his message.

His position comes as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 General Election, with Gachagua using the DCP to expand his political network and build support in different parts of the country. Gachagua’s visit to the constituency follows his earlier stop at Mogondo, where he visited the family of the late former Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno and paid tribute at his gravesite.

He is also expected to hold political engagements with DCP supporters and residents as part of the party’s grassroots mobilisation activities. Sudi’s appeal for calm means that attention will now be on whether the former Deputy President’s political engagements proceed without confrontation. For residents and security agencies, the immediate priority is to ensure that political differences do not escalate into violence and that participants are able to exercise their political rights peacefully.
