In an official public statement released on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, Raila Junior clarified that the encounter took place at the Kilgoris Public Airstrip, directly dismissing online claims that the incident occurred at President William Ruto’s private residence or that local residents were locked out of a private ceremony.
The video, which circulated widely across social media platforms following his attendance at Charlene Ruto’s traditional Koito engagement ceremony over the weekend, sparked widespread debate.Some online commentators speculated that the chain-link fence was built to exclude local residents from the event venue, while others commended him for stopping to acknowledge the waiting crowd.
Addressing the speculation, Raila Junior explained that the physical barrier shown in the footage was part of standard aviation security infrastructure rather than a restriction imposed on event attendees.
“I have seen the video and the comments circulating about me greeting wananchi through a fence. For clarity: this was not at the President’s private home. It took place at the public airstrip in Kilgoris,” Raila Junior stated in his public address.“As I alighted from the aircraft, a group of wananchi who recognised me waved me over and asked to greet me. The fence is a standard safety barrier that protects the landing area for aircraft.”
In the original footage recorded at the airstrip, Raila Junior engaged briefly with the assembled crowd, calling for peace and unity among community members before promising to plan a formal return visit to discuss local development priorities.
