Former Citizen TV news anchor and Kisumu senatorial aspirant Willis Raburu has assured supporters that he is safe after sustaining minor injuries in a road accident while accompanying the Linda Mwananchi political campaign convoy in western Kenya.

The incident occurred during the coalition’s political tour in Bungoma and Trans Nzoia counties, where Raburu was travelling with campaign teams ahead of a series of public rallies.

According to Raburu, he had been left behind by the main convoy and was riding on a motorcycle in an attempt to catch up when a vehicle hit him, causing him to fall. He said the driver did not stop after the collision.

In a video shared shortly after the incident, Raburu explained what had happened and assured supporters that his injuries were not serious.

“I was left behind by campaign cars. I am on a motorbike. I was hit by a car and fell. We are chasing the convoy… I suffered slight injuries, nothing much,” Raburu said.

He later shared another update on his social media platforms, reiterating that he was recovering well.

“Some random car hit me on the road. Campaign trails can be intense. I fell and got some bruises, but I’m okay nonetheless,” he wrote.

Images shared after the accident showed Raburu with visible bruises on his hands and legs. However, he did not report any life-threatening injuries, and there was no indication that he required prolonged medical treatment.

The accident occurred as the Linda Mwananchi coalition continued its campaign activities across western Kenya. Raburu has been actively participating in the coalition’s public engagements since joining the political movement and has declared his intention to contest the Kisumu Senate seat in the 2027 General Election.

The incident came on the same day another road accident involving a vehicle linked to the Linda Mwananchi campaign was reported along the Sibanga–Kitale Road. That separate accident involved a campaign vehicle carrying supporters, which overturned while travelling to one of the coalition’s rallies. Several occupants sustained injuries and received medical attention, while no fatalities were reported.

Raburu’s accident has drawn attention on social media, with supporters expressing concern before he confirmed that he was safe.

Road accidents involving campaign teams are not uncommon during political tours, which often involve long-distance travel and tightly scheduled events across multiple counties. Political leaders and campaign officials have frequently urged motorists and support teams to observe traffic regulations and exercise caution while moving between campaign venues.

Raburu’s statement that he sustained only minor injuries and was in stable condition has largely allayed concerns among his supporters, allowing the campaign activities to continue as scheduled.
