Shabana FC have ushered in a new era after appointing Egyptian tactician Ahmed Fathi Abdalla Ibrahim as the club’s new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 FKF Premier League season.
The Kisii-based side announced the appointment this week as it seeks to strengthen its technical bench and improve on last season’s performance, with the club setting its sights on competing for major honours in the upcoming campaign.
Fathi succeeds Peter Okidi and arrives with experience from Egyptian football, having previously served as a long-term assistant coach at Ismaily SC and El Bank El Ahly. Club officials believe his appointment will inject fresh tactical ideas into one of Kenya’s most passionately supported teams.
Speaking after his unveiling, Fathi made his ambitions clear, saying he is determined to build a competitive side capable of challenging for the league title.
“I am here for serious business. Our target is to win the league title next season,” Fathi said after being unveiled by the club.

The new coach will work alongside a revamped technical bench as Shabana intensify preparations for the new season. The club has also indicated that strengthening the playing squad remains a priority during the transfer window.
Founded in 1982, Shabana FC remains one of Kenya’s most historic clubs, enjoying strong support across Kisii County and beyond. Since returning to the FKF Premier League, the Glamour Boys have steadily rebuilt their top-flight status and are now aiming to establish themselves among the league’s title contenders.
The appointment reflects a growing trend among Kenyan clubs to recruit foreign coaches in pursuit of improved tactical development and consistency. Shabana will hope Fathi’s experience in Egyptian football translates into success as the club seeks to compete for domestic silverware and qualify for continental competitions in the coming seasons.
