The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has released the official kick-off dates for the 2026/27 domestic football season, confirming an earlier start for the country’s major competitions as part of preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Kenya will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania.
According to the federation’s calendar, the FKF Premier League will kick off on August 15, 2026, marking the start of a revised season designed to conclude well ahead of the continental tournament. Other national competitions, including the National Super League, FKF Women’s Premier League, Division One League, FKF Cup and youth competitions, will also begin on scheduled dates released by the federation.
FKF said the revised calendar is intended to synchronise Kenya’s domestic competitions with the international football schedule while ensuring adequate time for AFCON 2027 preparations. The move is expected to reduce fixture congestion and allow clubs to complete their campaigns before host venues are handed over for tournament preparations.
The federation’s decision reflects the significance of AFCON 2027, which will be the first time the three East African nations jointly host Africa’s flagship football tournament. As a host nation, Kenya is expected to make stadiums available months before the competition for final inspections, testing and operational readiness.
The announcement provides clubs with certainty as they begin planning for the new campaign, including pre-season training, player recruitment and squad registration. Teams competing in the top flight and lower divisions can now align their preparations with the confirmed start dates as they target league success, promotion, survival and qualification for CAF inter-club competitions.
FKF is expected to release the full fixture list, including opening-round matches, venues and kick-off times, in the coming weeks.
The earlier start underscores the federation’s effort to balance domestic football with Kenya’s international commitments, ensuring the local season runs smoothly while supporting the country’s preparations for one of the biggest sporting events ever to be staged in the region.
