Tiktok is facing multiple legal actions from parents over the death of their kids who died while attempting the ‘’ blackout challenge.’’ Seven children who have died while attempting the challenge are all under the age of 15 years.
A complaint indicated that the challenge encourages users to choke themselves with belts, purse, strings, or anything similar until passing out.
This challenge has been around since 2008 but it resurfaced on Tiktok in 2021.Experts are warning young users against doing such dangerous viral trends which have previously led to more than 80 deaths.
10-year-old Nylah Anderson, died while trying this challenge. She choked herself after accidentally hanging herself in her closet. She was rushed to the hospital, and doctors tried to revive her but it was too late. A forensic analysis on the young girl’s phone showed that she used Tiktok to watch blackout videos before she died.
In their defence, A Tiktok spokes said that people are learning this challenges from other sources other than Tiktok. ‘’We remain vigilant in our commitment to user safety and would immediately remove content if found,”’ they added.
Parent are being advised to check their kids phone because they never know what kind of deleterious content they are consuming. They are kids they don’t know any better.
