Kenyan Ohangla musician Prince Indah has paid homage to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Friday, October 2, 2026, after entertaining at a candle-lighting ceremony in Nairobi’s Uhuru Park. The artiste shared his reaction to the event on social media, explaining how the performance made him feel after hundreds of mourners gathered to remember the personality.
“A painful performance. A sad moment to stand in front of the crowd, BABA,” Indah said.
The musician likened the event with the fact that Raila would never perform on stage again while his political legacy would continue to flourish long after his death.
“We won’t see you grace the stage again, yet we stand proud of your relentless zeal and steadfast fight for democracy and a better nation, BABA,” he added. “Though you are no longer with us physically, your dream remains alive in our hearts, BABA. Rest in eternal peace, Baba,” he said.
Indah was one of the several artistes who performed on the day, as part of the Mwezi wa Baba programme, which is meant to commemorate the anniversary of Raila’s death.
The Nairobi event started in the afternoon and continued until evening when the candle-lighting ceremony was held. The programmes were also ongoing in other cities and towns across the country, including Mombasa and Kisumu, as citizens marked the anniversary of the former prime minister’s death.

The October event will continue until October 15 when families will hold ceremonies in Bondo, coinciding with the first anniversary of Raila’s death. A national concert and legacy commemoration festival is also scheduled to be held in Nairobi on October 31.
Raila died in India at the age of 80 on October 15, 2025, after undergoing treatment in the country. He was the Prime Minister of Kenya from 2008 to 2013 and a leading political figure for many years before his death.
Indah was one of the many musicians who performed on Friday as part of the events being held across the country to mark the anniversary of Raila’s death. Mourners marked the day by singing and dancing to various songs, lighting candles, and giving speeches in memory of the former Prime Minister.
