Kenyan dancer and choreographer Tileh Pacbro has sparked widespread discussion after publicly reaffirming that he does not believe in God, saying he attributes his achievements to personal effort rather than divine intervention.

Speaking during a recent interview, the choreographer, who has previously identified himself as an atheist, said his success in life is the result of his own work and determination.

“Mimi siamini kuna Mungu. Kila kitu niko nayo, magari, nyumba na watoto ni kwa uwezo wangu, sio wa Mungu.”

The remarks quickly circulated on social media, prompting mixed reactions from Kenyans. While some users defended his right to express his personal beliefs, others disagreed with his views, citing their own religious convictions.

Tileh has consistently maintained that his position on religion developed over time rather than as a sudden decision. In previous interviews, he explained that he gradually questioned religious teachings before identifying as an atheist.

“You don’t wake up one day and become an atheist. It’s a process,” he said in an earlier interview while discussing his personal journey away from religion.

The dancer has also previously stated that he does not intend to impose religious beliefs on his son, saying he would prefer the child to make an independent decision about faith when he is old enough to do so.

Tileh Pacbro, whose real name is David Otieno, is the founder of Dance 98 Academy and has built a career as a choreographer, performer and digital content creator. Over the years, he has worked with several local and international artists and has established a significant following on social media through dance content and entertainment productions.

His latest comments have generated renewed discussion in a country where religion plays a prominent role in public life. According to the 2019 Kenya Population and Housing Census, the overwhelming majority of Kenyans identify with a religious faith, with Christianity accounting for the largest share of the population. Against that backdrop, public declarations of atheism by high-profile personalities often attract significant public attention.

The discussion surrounding the interview has largely centred on freedom of belief, personal responsibility and the role of religion in society, with opinions remaining sharply divided across social media platforms.
