Months of online taunts, tense face-offs and cross-border bragging rights culminated in dramatic fashion on Saturday night after Ugandan businessman Shakib Cham Lutaaya defeated Kenyan singer Arrow Bwoy by technical knockout (TKO) in the headline bout of the Vurugu 2 celebrity boxing event.
Held at the Sarit Expo Centre in Nairobi, the contest drew one of the biggest crowds of the evening as fans from Kenya and Uganda watched the much-publicised rivalry finally move from social media to the boxing ring. However, the bout proved to be short-lived, with Shakib overpowering Arrow Bwoy before the referee stopped the fight in the second round.
From the opening bell, Shakib appeared composed and confident, using his reach and previous boxing experience to dictate the pace of the contest. Arrow Bwoy, making his celebrity boxing debut, struggled to match his opponent’s pressure as the Ugandan repeatedly landed clean punches that forced the referee to intervene and award Shakib the victory by technical knockout.
The fight had been billed as the main attraction of Vurugu 2, an event organised by Oga Obinna through Obinna TV Studios, bringing together celebrity boxing, professional bouts and live music performances. Long before fight night, the showdown had generated widespread interest across East Africa, fuelled by weeks of social media exchanges between the two personalities.
Tensions reached a boiling point during the official weigh-in a day before the event when Arrow Bwoy threw an egg at Shakib during their face-off. The incident quickly went viral, intensifying anticipation ahead of the fight and prompting spirited debate among fans over who would emerge victorious.

For many followers of the rivalry, the contest carried significance beyond the ring. Shakib, who is married to Ugandan socialite Zari Hassan, and Arrow Bwoy had spent weeks exchanging barbs online, turning what began as promotional banter into one of East Africa’s most talked-about celebrity feuds.
Saturday’s outcome gave Shakib the final say.
As the referee called off the fight in the second round, celebrations erupted from sections of the crowd while videos of the stoppage quickly spread across TikTok, Facebook, Instagram and X. The result also sparked thousands of reactions online, with supporters from both Kenya and Uganda debating the performance and sharing memes, highlights and commentary within minutes of the bout ending.
Among those watching from ringside was singer Nadia Mukami, Arrow Bwoy’s Ex partner, who had publicly supported him in the build-up to the event. Following the defeat, she shared a message praising him for stepping into the ring and encouraging him despite the loss, saying he should be proud of his effort.
Arrow Bwoy later addressed the defeat, acknowledging the outcome while reflecting on the experience of his first boxing match. His response came after clips of the stoppage dominated entertainment platforms and sports pages throughout the weekend.
Beyond the headline clash, Vurugu 2 featured several professional boxing contests, including former World Boxing Council champion Fatuma Zarika’s victory over Tanzania’s Najma Isike, alongside performances by musicians such as Ruger and Khaligraph Jones. The event underscored the growing popularity of celebrity boxing in Kenya, where sporting competition is increasingly being combined with entertainment to attract wider audiences.
While the rivalry between Arrow Bwoy and Shakib was settled inside the ring, the conversation has continued online, with the fight remaining one of the most discussed entertainment events of the weekend and adding another memorable chapter to the fast-growing Vurugu boxing franchise.
