Kenya’s President William Ruto is in Évian, France, for the annual G7 summit, where he will present African perspectives on reshaping global finance and spurring economic development.
The President and First Lady Rachel Ruto arrived ahead of the three-day gathering, which begins on June 15 all the way to June 17. He was invited by French President Emmanuel Macron, whose government is hosting this year’s meeting. Also travelling with the President is Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
The summit brings together the heads of the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the European Union, alongside several guest nations, including Kenya. The agenda covers a broad range of issues, from trade and climate action to international security, debt management, and the economic impact of artificial intelligence.
Kenya’s presence at the talks signals its growing role in discussions that shape policy for developing countries. According to official briefings from State House, President Ruto will encourage adjustments to global lending practices, more robust investment flows into Africa, and simpler access to climate-related funds. He is also set to argue for financing arrangements that allow poorer nations to secure affordable capital for infrastructure and climate resilience work. Away from the main sessions, he has scheduled side meetings with other heads of state and development agencies to explore cooperation in farming, energy, technology, and transport.
