Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru has instituted a turn around measure after she reinstated over 70 medics who have been suspended for a period of over 2 years. The medics were suspended during a strike, where they were seeking better pay and allowances. During the period, Waiguru termed the strike as illegal and threatened to fire all the medics who participated.
During a meeting held in her official residence in Kagio. The governor also renewed contracts for over 380 other medics. She promised that she will absorb all medics under contract under the permanent and pensionable terms. Waiguru has been in the news lately after employing over 300 ECDE educators on permanent and pensionable terms.
Sources close to the unions who spoke https://www.iconnews.co.ke said that the educators and the medics are happy since they can now rest and work for the people of Kirinyaga. However the governor is under criticism from her fierce competitors who say that this are last minute gimmicks.
“The governor is trying to impress the voters so that they can forget about her poor record”. a competitor was quoted saying. Heath workers have been suffering after the function was devolved but such a gesture whether political or not should be celebrate. a top union boss commented.
Waiguru has been leading the charge in the Kirinyaga gubernatorial race after her fierce and main competitor ditched UDA. According to reports from political analysts in the county the race is a two horse race but Waiguru is winning with a slight majority. She is facing various candidates from the azimio coalition and an independent candidate.
All the medics who were reinstated will now be paid arrears from the last two years. This arrears will be paid in batches. However the medics have already been paid their May and June arrears. All contracts have been renewed for a three year period indicated the confident governor.
