The Kenya Defence Forces will on Friday hold a consecration, presentation and trooping of the colour by 21 Battalion and the Kenya Rifles at the Ulinzi Sports Complex ,Lang’ata from 9 AM.

The occasion will be presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta who is also the Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces.According to military protocol, the colours (flags) are the highest honour of any Regiment/Unit and are a well-guarded and treasured possession.

The practice of “Trooping the Colour” originated in 17th century England whereby the Queen’s Colour, a symbol of sovereignty, would be showcased in a decorated ceremony. After independence, the presidential and regimental colours replaced those of the Queen.

The colours symbolise the spirit of the regiment for they bear the battle honours and badges granted to it in commemoration of heroic deeds performed by its troops.

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority on Wednesday announced two airspace closures over Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to pave way for military operations.

KCAA affirmed that the closure would last for six hours from 1000hrs to 1600hrs local time Thursday and again on Friday 5th August 2022.
