Uganda adopts Swahili as the official language

Ugandan cabinet approved the enactment of the 21st East African Community Summit Mandate in Uganda to adopt as Swahili as an official language.

Training programs for parliament , cabinet and media be facilitated.In 2017 the Swahili language had been introduced to Primary and secondary schools as a compulsory subject alongside English by the Uganda National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC).

Over the years Swahili has extended to southern African countries such as Malawi and Zambia .African Union (AU) and South African Development Community (SADC) have also adopted Swahili as an official language.

This moves comes after a research conducted showed that the Swahili is spoken by over 200 million speakers globally.In July 20202 South Africa introduced Swahili as an optional subject ,to promote unity among Africans.

Swahili is actually taught in universities such as China and over 100 universities in USA including Harvard university.
