Three Venezuelan nationals have been arrested at The Jomo Kenyatta Airport as they were in possession of election materials such as IEBC stickers which they had not declared. The police spokesman questioned why they had they were carrying such sensitive material without the company of any IEBC officials

Independent Electoral and Boundaries commission(IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati stated that the three Venezuelans were called for to help the electoral commission in stationing electoral materials across the country.

“The three personnel, who were employees of smartic international B.V. were arrested upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport from Venezuela. IEBC has a valid legal contract executed between itself and smartic International B.V for the supply , delivery , installation , texting , commissioning, support and maintenance of the Kenya integral Election management system,’’ Read the statement by IEBC.

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati. The commission ahs locked out over 34 aspirants in the presidential race. This is after the aspirants failed to meet the deadline to submit signatures.

Chebukati’s fear over Possible postponement of election date in some areas.

The Foreigners have been release after  Chebukati confirmed that the materials found in the possession of the Venezuelans IT gurus was indeed the property of IEBC .The three are employed by Smartic International B.V , a company highered by the electoral commission IEBC to provide technology set to be used in Kenyans August 9th polls.

The company has been in existence since 2002 and have set up election technologies in 31 countries. The company assured Kenyans that there would be no interference in its systems in the upcoming polls.
