Former Nairobi governor has pleaded,to move to the East African Court of Justice after the supreme court agreed with the decision of his impeachment from office.
Sonko claims that the supreme court did not offer him enough time to present evidence as the hearing was done within one day.
” We have filled for a review before the same supreme court and we have also filled before the East African Court of Justice,” Sonko said ” If someone said Sonko is finished ,this is the end of Sonko. Its the start of Sonko , not the end of Sonko,”
According to the supreme court ruling ,his impeachment was in accordance to the constitution and he was fairly removed from office in December 2020.
” Chapter six of the constitution was not enacted in vain or for cosmetic reasons.The authority assigned to a state officer is a public trust to be exercised in a manner that demonstrates respect for the people ; brings honour to the nation and dignity to the office.It vests in the state officer the responsibility to serve the people,rather than the power to rule them,” The Supreme Court Judges said .
Sonko had recently been cleared by the Mombasa High court to run for office as he was issued with the clearance certificate by the IEBC.
